Semifinals Set for Callaway Collegiate Match Play Championship
BALL GROUND, Ga. – After two rounds of action semifinals are set at the Callaway Collegiate Match Play Championship at Hawks Ridge Golf Club in Ball Ground, Ga. Fourth-seeded Illinois will face ninth-seeded Texas Tech in the first semifinal while 10th-seeded Duke will meet 11th-seeded Southern California in the other.

Texas Tech advanced by downing top-seeded UCLA, 3-1-1. The Bruins struck first with a 4 and 3 win by Alex Shi Yup Kim. Texas Tech responded by claiming the next three matches with victories by Chandler Rusk (3 and 2), Tyler Weworski (3 and 1), and Matt Smith (1-up). The Red Raiders Nils Floren and UCLA’s Gregor Main halved the final match.

Illinois earned its second win of the day by knocking off Texas A&M, 3-2. Texas A&M seemed to capture the early momentum when John Hurley won 4 and 3 and Conrad Shindler picked up a 3 and 2 victory. The Illini responded by claiming matches by Thomas Pieters (2 and 1) and Chris DeForest (1-up). Luke Guthrie completed the comeback for Illinois with a clutch pitch on 18 followed by Texas A&M concession for a 1-up final.

Southern California picked up its second upset of the day with a 3-2 win against Georgia Tech. Jeffrey Kang put the Trojans on the board first with a 5 and 4 victory. Martin Trainer claimed his match 3 and 2 while Steve Lim won 2-up to complete Southern California’s victory.

Duke continued its hot play at the Callaway Collegiate Match Play Championship by beating East Tennessee State, 4-1. Austin Cody (4 and 3), Tom Gornik (3 and 2), Julian Suri (2-up) and Brinson Paolini (1-up) all claimed victories for the Blue Devils. Through two rounds Duke has claimed nine of 10 matches.

Third-round matches will begin Monday morning at 8:30 a.m. ET.
